Help make a difference by putting your Faith in Action
Faith in Action Suggestion for the Month of January

faith-in-action_918

We are called to pray, AND we are called to put our faith into action. We are called to follow Jesus which means we need to love and serve our neighbors in the name of Christ. It’s also our job to stand up to injustice and respect the dignity of every human being.

This month we suggest working together for housing justice. Learn more about homelessness in Ventura County and take action to support CLUE VC (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice - Ventura County). Attend an important event (online or in-person) Sunday, January 8 at 2pm. Bethel AME Church, 855 South F Street, Oxnard AND live on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cluevc

Register to attend in person at https://bit.ly/3UwzD49

This Month's Outreach Project

FEEDING OUR HUNGRY NEIGHBORS

We’re raising the funds to purchase the food and paper goods used for when we take our turn once a month at the Family to Family lunch ministry. We serve about 100 lunches each third Monday of the month. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help sustain this ministry into the new year. Donate in person, on the website, use PayPal or send in a check. We appreciate whatever you can do to support this important cause. Thank you!

Year of Prayer to End Racism

prayer-image_72

The Diocese of West Virginia has released an inspiring and motivating series of prayers to be used throughout the year as we work and pray for an end to racism. I encourage you to use these prayers in your personal prayer life, and I encourage us to make the commitment to become more and more, day by day the people God is calling us to be.

JANUARY—Pray for an end to slavery: (January 1, Emancipation Proclamation)

“O God of liberty and justice: we live in a nation in which the institution of human

bondage was once a legal and accepted practice. We give thanks for those who worked and fought, at great personal sacrifice, to bring about an end to that cruel and oppressive system in our own land, and we pray that governments and authorities everywhere in the world might be led to make a quick end to the enslavement of any human being, throughout the Earth.” Amen.

Here's what you can Look Forward to Next Sunday:

This Sunday, January 8th at 10:15am

Join us in-person or online

On this first Sunday after the Epiphany, we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. We’ll enjoy a wonderful service that includes baptism, the renewal our baptismal vows, inspiring scripture, beautiful music and an uplifting message of hope and love. Join us as we offer our prayers and sing joyful praises. Online, we offer Spiritual Communion. In-person, we offer Eucharist, the body of Christ, the bread of heaven. Come to church and get inspired!

The service will be live-streamed online. Whether you come in person, or join us online, we look forward to being with you!

*We offer two options for in-person worshippers. One section of the church is reserved for those who prefer to wear a mask. We also have a section of Open Seating where masks are optional. We hope makes it possible for everyone to find a place where they can feel safe and comfortable to worship in the sanctuary. Please do what you think is best for you and your family. All are welcome here!
