Help make a difference by putting your Faith in Action
Faith in Action Suggestion for the Month of December:
We are called to pray, AND we are called to put our faith into action. We are called to follow Jesus which means we need to love and serve our neighbors in the name of Christ. It’s also our job to stand up to injustice and respect the dignity of every human being.
Ask Congress to support immigrant Farm Workers - The agriculture industry relies heavily on immigrant workers, many of whom are undocumented. These hard-working individuals can be found in every corner of the country, harvesting crops, working the fields, and doing intense work up and down the agricultural supply chain. These workers lack vital protections, despite performing essential services, and Congressional action is needed to support the workers as well as a vital sector of the U.S. economy. COATS FOR ALL and REACH for Socks
We are collecting new or gently used coats and jackets of all sizes now through the end of the year! The drive is sponsored by the Downtown Chapter of the Rotary Club. The donation box is located in the church lobby
Socks are also in high demand at this time of year for the men and women served by the Family to Family ministry. Drop of your sock donations in the basket on the REACH table. We’ll distribute them throughout the winter season. (Please no dress socks or children’s sizes.)
Here's what you can Look Forward to Next Sunday:
This Sunday, January 1st at 10:15am
Happy New Year! Join us as we celebrate the Feast of The Holy Name honoring the eighth day after Jesus was born when he was named and circumcised. He was "called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb" (Lk 2:21). Under the Law of Moses, all male infants were to be circumcised on the eighth day after birth (Lv 12:3). It was also customary at this time for family and friends to witness the naming of the child.
This major feast is celebrated on Jan. 1, the eighth day of the Christmas season. This year it falls on the first Sunday after Christmas and though the world has moved on, in the church, the celebration continues. It's the 8th day of Christmas - 4 more to go!
The Gospel lesson gives an account of the shepherds who, after seeing the angels and hearing their proclamations, say to one another, "Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place which the Lord has made known to us." They found the family and told them what they had seen. All who heard it were amazed! But Mary treasured these words and pondered them in her heart. After eight days, it was time to circumcise the child and name him. They gave him the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. His name is Jesus. Join us on this New Year’s Day to celebrate the 8th Day of Christmas.
Come hear inspiring scripture, beautiful music, and an uplifting message of hope and love. Come get inspired!
Lots of great things are happening!
